The future is radiant… It’s that time of year again. 2013 is coming to an end, which means its time to bid farewell to Emerald and welcome Radiant Orchid – Pantone’s color of the year for 2014. “While the 2013 color of the year, Pantone 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. Also known as 18-3224, this shade of purple has been named the color de rigueur for fashion, interiors and graphic design in the year ahead by the people at Pantone after a year of researching and analyzing the world of design. We’ll see. Admittedly, there are doubters among us…

Interesting roundup of key findings (via Charlene Li, The State of Social Business in 2013 | LinkedIn) on the role of social media in business today. Investment in headcount and infrastructure have steadily grown, as companies reach “intermediate” stages of social business. Several are turning their sights from “social media” as an extension of marketing and communications, and seek to push a “social business” agenda throughout the organization. Top findings include:
- Most organizations are “intermediate,” with only 17% self-described as “strategic” in the execution of their social strategies.
- 78% of companies have a dedicated social media team, at the division, corporate or both levels
- Companies are committing more headcount to social media across all sizes of organizations. The biggest jump is for companies with more than 100,000 employees, which now report an average of 49 full-time employees supporting social media, compared to 20 in 2010.
- 85% of companies have an organizational social media policy, yet only 18% of companies report that their employees’ knowledge of social media usage and the organizational policy is either good or very good.

Go where the action is… Renowned Paris retailer Colette touches down at Art Basel Miami (December 2–8) for a conceptual art/commerce experience. The colette art Drive-Thru is installed in the innovative fashion boutique Alchemist located on the fifth level of the car park (1111 Lincoln Road), the celebrated concrete structure by Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron. Visitors drive up, order from a virtual menu of specially curated items and wait for “carhops” (girls on roller skates) to bring out the order. Participating products include some of the hottest names in art, fashion, and culture working today. In addition, specially co-branded drive-thru items are available. Perfect for the Art Basel crowd. Question is will they just browse before taking off for Negroni hour. Major points for the concept, the location and the retro graphics. If your cool (or brave) enough to be in steamy Miami, check it out. Amuse-toi bien…
