Product photography… Consistent & brand appropriate. Spotted this series of photos for the luxury apparel company Gucci online. Simple, elegant, well lit shots that perfectly support the exclusive positioning of the legendary Italian brand. While you may not have the budget of the mighty fashion labels, something smart and simple will go a long way. Bellissimo…

It’s a smiley face world… Fun piece by Pagan Kennedy in the Times on the origins and pervasive use of emoticons. 🙂 vs. :), the flirtatious ;)… Simple, quick and something that takes the sting out of what are often cold, easy to misinterpret communications – we soooo appreciate Professor Scott Fahlman’s clever little invention 🙂 ….

We all make mistakes… Oh Brad! We all were kind of curious after the announcement of the unusual pairing of Brad Pitt and the classic women’s fragrance Chanel No. 5. The spot, directed by Pride and Prejudice director Joe Wright, features Pitt in black and white, mumbling non-sequiturs. Odd to say the least, without an ounce of charm or convincing salesmanship. High-minded, brilliantly executed

What If, the campaign… Financial services giant (and longtime Kellyco client) Morgan Stanley introduces the “What If” integrated branding campaign. The campaign (print ads, video and dedicated website) was created by the Martin Agency and photographed by Nadav Kander, and combines portraiture with images of industry, business, and philanthropy, attempting to position the strength of the firm’s wealth management services while bringing together values of social responsibility and good ole American capitalism. The ads also announce the new name for the U.S. wealth management business, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management (previously Morgan Stanley Smith Barney). Quite a production to say the least. A bit ominous (especially the score), but quite progressive in both spirit and execution…

Dysfunction by design… Interesting look at ballot design with designer Todd Oldham and Mo Rocca “when it comes to the simple task of casting our votes, extreme confusion calls for an extreme makeover”. Keeping things difficult simply should not be tolerated, but of course, leadership is again required….
