California ceramics tell a good story

Site SPOTTED.  Heath Ceramics: founded in 1948 by Edith Heath, a Californian ceramicist who helped define the Californian modern movement and is considered among the most enduring examples of mid-century design. Found in restaurants (most notably, Chez Panisse in Berkeley), homes and museums worldwide, Heath is synonymous with simple, functional and thoughtfully designed tableware and tile. Heath was known for innovation in clay, glazing techniques and single kiln firing, which utilizes lower than normal temperature, therefore saving energy. This thoughtful or Great Depression mentality is still a critical part of present owners’, Catherine Bailey and Robin Petravic, mission. The website which went through a major redesign a few years ago, straddles representing the brand and delivering robust e-commerce capabilities. A flexible grid layout accommodates both extensive product content, as well as more editorial-like stories and inspiration features. Product photography is simple and clean. More styled environment shots help to define the modern Californian brand personality. All text and the voice of the site is consistently simple, friendly and engaging. Can’t say enough good things about this company. Edith’s original mission says it best: “Make simple, good things for good people”. Enough said…
