Inspiring ladies… Breaking soon in a range of February magazines, the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer campaign is a series of portraits, often in six-page units resembling a portrait gallery, features designer Marc Jacobs’ chosen muses including Catherine Deneuve, Sofia Coppola, Gisele Bündchen, Fan Bingbing, Caroline de Maigret and Edie Campbell. Photographed by Steven Meisel in a New York studio, the ads feature each of MJ’s inspirational ladies staring out with an aloof Mona Lisa-like expression. Each subject is wearing something from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection, Jacobs’ last for the brand, along with Jacobs’ reimagined bucket-style Noé bag (originally designed in 1932 by Gaston-Louis Vuitton). The images recall the dark glamour of the designer’s final Vuitton runway show. The simple studio backdrop and subdued blue/black color palette heighten the contemplative mood of the series. A tasteful and befitting au revoir for one of fashion’s biggest talents. Always gotta love a good portrait…
