Mastercard looks forward
Mastercard recently unveiled a refreshed brand identity including a redesigned logo and comprehensive design system. Based off the company’s iconic red and yellow interlocking circles, the new design by Pentagram partners Michael Bierut and Luke Hayman is intended to take the credit card brand into the digital future. The iconic two circles and two colors have been retained but have been simplified substantially. The company name has moved to all lower case alluding to the ubiquitous usage of the card as well as a more digital orientation. The objective of the rebrand was to reinforce the core attributes of the brand including value and trust while updating the overall brand experience to something more contemporary and digital-friendly. This is the first large brand redesign for Mastercard since 1996. The new branding will begin to roll out this year as new and replacement cards to billions of cardholders, advertising, digital applications, print collateral and global offices. Embrace the circle everyone!
